Icon Tutorial by Me
I wanted to make a tutorial (GASP. Of my own free will?) so here it is :D I'm gonna show you guys how I made this icon:

Image from The 99th Floor.

<tr>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5"></td>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5">

First, we start with our 100x100 base. I had already slightly sharpened this base only cuz it was a little fuzzy. But you can do what you want depending on what image you use.

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5"></td>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5">

I added this over the image. The color is #371828, but I didnt want it on Trish's body so I set the layer's fill to 30% and erased where Trish's body was.

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5"></td>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5">

So this is what I have :D. After erasing everything I set the fill back to 100% and set the layer to saturation.

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5"></td>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5">

It should now look like this.

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5"></td>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5">

Next, I add on this gradient which I got from [info]colortone. (actually all the gradients I used are from there xD) and set it to soft light.

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5"></td>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5">

So that it looks like this.

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5"></td>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5">

Next, I add anouther gradient. This time the fill is 65% and I set it to lighten.

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5"></td>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5">

It should look like this now.

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5"></td>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5">

As much as I liked the way it came out after adding the Lighten I wanted it to be a little darker so I added this gradient and set it to color burn.

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5"></td>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5">

And this is what you get.

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5"></td>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5">

Next, I got this light base from the wonderful [info]colortone and set it to screen.

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5"></td>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5">

So that it should look like this.

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5"></td>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5">

Next, I got anouther light base (ooo fireworks :D) and added gaussian blur at 2.0 and set it to overlay.

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5"></td>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5">

So that it turns out like this.

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5"></td>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5">

First off, wow that is woah dark. I didn't want it like this and I pretty much only care about the light so I erased part of the black and left only the blurred fire works so that it would look like this. I left it on overlay incase anyone got confused.

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5"></td>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5">

So it should be like this now. But then I though, "Hmm.. lets make it a little lighter..." so I set the fill to 62%.

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5"></td>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5">

Now for the text. the 'in the' and 'past' are two seperate text layers. For 'in the' I used arial black at 6 pt. For 'past' I used fountain pen frenzy at 30 pt. And both layers font color is #1F0000. And it looks like such.

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5"></td>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5">

I don't like the way the letters look so I decided to give them a little border. By clicking on the add layer style, which is at the bottom of your layers pallet and looks like a f in a circle, and selecting stoke. I made the size of the stroke 1 px and I set the color to #FFF1EF. I then did it again for the second text layer. (haha remember I have two xD)

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5"></td>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5">

So now you have this. Almost done, but not yet :3

</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5"></td>
<td bgcolor="E5E5E5">

Next I merged all my layers together (by going to layer >> merge visible). Once all the layers are together I went back to my add layer style, went under stroke, set the size to 1 px, set the color to #030102, and where is says position I set it to inside. And then there you have it. All done :3

</td>
</tr>

If you guys use it to make anything I would love to see it :3

By the way this icon won first place at [info]dmc_awards
